# API keys

> Create a limited key for your own script or reporting tool.

## Create a key

1. Sign in and open [Settings → Integrations](https://app.tryvoicestudio.com/external/settings/integrations).
2. Select **Create key** and give it a name that identifies the tool.
3. Choose your company, all its projects or a specific list, and the permissions it needs.
4. Choose an expiration, then select **Create key**.
5. Copy the secret when it appears. Store it in your tool’s secret settings.

The full secret is shown only once. VoiceStudio stores its hash. If you lose it, revoke the old key and create a replacement.

## Make a request

Set `VOICESTUDIO_API_KEY` in your environment or secret manager. Send it in the `x-api-key` header:

```bash theme={null}
curl 'https://api.tryvoicestudio.com/v1/projects?limit=25' \
  -H "x-api-key: $VOICESTUDIO_API_KEY"
```

You can also use `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY` instead of `x-api-key`. Send one credential header per request.

## Change or revoke access

Review the key’s permissions, last-used date and expiration on the integrations page. To change access, revoke the key and create a replacement with the new permissions. Revocation prevents subsequent requests.

A key belongs to the account that created it. Removing that account’s company access, suspending it, or changing its review role can stop the key from working.

<Warning>
  Keep keys out of browser code, source control and conversations. Use OAuth for
  an assistant whenever it supports it.
